I’m sharing with you today a story told by a loving wife Charlie, about what her family experienced when her husband Brendan was very ill. Through Charlie’s story you can see clearly what inspires us at the Royal District Nursing Service of SA Inc (RDNS) to work as we do.
In this, they have much in common with many of the people we serve each day – many of whom are facing the end of life.
Now, with Christmas approaching, it’s fitting to think not only of the seriously ill and their carers but also of their loved ones. Friends, children, grandchildren... all must surely be feeling a little fearful and vulnerable as well. And all are in search of a way they can help.
On Christmas Day this year we will be extremely busy, visiting over 600 clients in South Australia who need support and care. We will be there beside them, nursing, nurturing, supporting and listening, doing all we can to give each client comfort and assistance. Sadly, this includes approximately 40 people who are terminally ill. They will be experiencing a wide range of emotions and it’s extremely important that our nurses and carers give them the support that’s appropriate for each and every individual.
Now, you can help too. A donation to our 2009 Christmas Appeal can help us make this Christmas a better one for people in need, providing not just vital comfort and support but, in many cases, the very essentials needed for survival.
Help is needed now in order to be used in time for Christmas – a time of immense emotional significance to our nurses and so many of the people they care for.
Please take a moment now to send your Christmas Appeal donation and thank you sincerely, on behalf of the South Australians who will benefit from your gift.
